From 2008 to 2009, I experienced an illness and attended a surgical hospital for about three months. One day, while I was waiting in the hospital's waiting room, I unexpectedly remembered the time I worked in a small surgical clinic. Have you ever watched a Japanese TV drama called "Oshin"? My experience at the clinic was just like the TV show.
I was 18 years old at the time and was just about to graduate from high school, and a time to decide where to work after getting out of school.
My school counselor suggested to me to have an interview with a surgical clinic doctor in the city of Hofu. It was not so near to where I was living, but I did not seem to have a choice...or at least that was what I thought. I was too naive to say, "No," to people at that time.
Soon I went to the clinic to have an interview with the doctor and he seemed so amazingly nice. He even gave me the train money for my return home that day and this also impressed me. I felt so relieved and immediately decided to begin studying there.
When I was leaving the clinic, one of the nurses called my name and said, "Do you really want to work here?"
Looking back, I now realize that this was her way to warn me about that clinic, but of course, at that time, I could not see clearly so I simply answered her, "Yes!"
This was how my terrifying, horrific life as a student nurse started.
To be continued...
